MAMAK MEE-AH! - THE MUSICAL SPOOF
AUDITIONS DATES
7pm to 11pm Monday October 12th
7pm to 11pm Tuesday October 13th
LOCATION
STUDIO 2 KLPac, Sentul Park
Auditions will be maximum 10 minutes. At the audition, we will want to hear you sing, and see how you act and move. In addition to your song, please prepare a short one to two minute monologue to deliver in the character for which you are auditioning. Or adlib on the audition day if you prefer. Bring your own props/costume. You will also need to be able demonstrate some skill in movement and a decent sense of rhythm. Bring your music and show us your dance!
IMPORTANT!!
Auditionees MUST sing a song that has been featured in a staged musical. This helps us gauge your suitability for the show and the role. Better if you can sing one of the songs that the character for which you are auditioning sings in Mamak Mee-Ah.
SUGGESTIONS
Whilst we will video the auditions, do please try to bring a Theatre Biodata or CV or Press Kit or something that helps us to remember you. Previous experience shows that those who did got the gig over those that didn't.
We have the backing music for all the songs in the show, but if you have your own CD Backing music do please feel free to use it for the audition. If you have sheet music, please bring a keyboard player with you. And a keyboard. And an amplifier.
Ninety percent of success comes from showing up. Try to think about your strengths and what you see that you could bring to the show and the character.
There are only ten spots available. Not everyone will get one. Us saying no does not mean failure, just that you don't appear to have what we see the show needing at this time. I will call everyone with a decision within two weeks.
But bear in mind that things can change. Initial cast selections occasionally drop out and strong second choices then get the call and the gig. Remember there is always a long term. If not this show, then maybe the next. Stay positive.

Well, and here we go again!
From the team that created and presented the hugely successful BROADWAY PARODIES LAH! and the Cameronian 2008 Audience Choice Award winning BROADWAY PARODIES LAGI LAH! comes MAMAK MEE-AH! - THE MUSICAL SPOOF
Still borrowing well known tunes from the stage world and set under a tree somewhere in Malaysia, MAMAK MEE-AH! - THE MUSICAL SPOOF tells a story of love, and food, and love OF food, whilst tackling issues of world hunger, self esteem and growing up in a technical world.

Wei Lee - Student. pretty, sweet, bit preppy - clear minded, bit bossy but good natured environmentalist. Soprano, Needs to belt.

Boh Doh (Bui Doi from Ms Saigon);
Peas and Rice (JC Superstar)
Geek Bodoh - techie, shy, wants a girl, socially a bit clumsy. Lyric or Baritone tenor. Needs to be able to articulate.
songs: I Got To Get A Message To You (Bee Gees),
Bare Celebrities (Bare Necessities from Jungle Book)
Mak Cik - bossy but ultimately loveable - ideally needs to contrast Mamak in size and shape terms. Songs are quite big, need alto voice and able to sell the songs.
songs: Makcik Life (Mack The Knife),
Love Letters (The Pat Boone classic),
Low Class Bad Word (Lonely Goatherd from Sound Of Music)
Mamak - the visual opposite of Makcik. Friendly, large character, cook. bass/baritone voice.
songs: Empty Chairs (from Les Miz),
Under The Tree (Under The Sea from Little Mermaid),
If I Were A Tan Sri (If I Were A Rich Man from Fiddler on The Roof)
Fat Lawyer - Not a demanding role, but quite critical in plot terms. Need an articulate voice. Baritone tenor preferred.
Songs: I Feel Hungry (I Feel Pretty from West Side Story),
What I Had For Lunch (What I Did For Love from Chorus Line).
Ah Pek - father of Geek Bodoh. Need to be Ah Pek one. Bit arrogant, hamsap, foot on the stool at the coffee shop type. Baritone/Tenor.
songs: I'll Eat Anything (I'd Do Anything from Oliver)
Sambal Nights (Summer Nights from Grease),
No Pork No Pork (New York New York)
Assistant One and Two - ladies, basically chorus voices and dancers for all songs. Some lines. Will need to understudy lead roles.
Mamak Son One and Two - young guys, chorus voices for songs and dancers. Some lines. Will need to understudy lead roles.
